NOTICE BY THE BOARD
OF ELECTIONS
Pursuant to § 6. 3(e) of the ABA Constitution, the state of Wyoming will elect
a State Delegate to fill a vacancy due to
the resignation of Timothy J. Kirven.
The term commences immediately upon
certification by the Board of Elections
and expires at the conclusion of the 2011

the demise of M. Allyn Dingel, Jr. The
term is effective at the conclusion of the
2009 Annual Meeting and expires at the
conclusion of the 2012 Annual Meeting.

ELECTION FOR DELEGATE-AT-LARGE
VACANCY (2009-2010 TERM)
Due to the resignation of Robert A.
Stein, a Delegate-at-Large vacancy exists. To fill this vacancy, one Delegate-at-Large to the House of Delegates will be
elected at the 2009 Annual Meeting for a
one-year term beginning with the adjournment of that meeting and ending
with the adjournment of the 2010 Annual
Meeting. Candidates for election as
Delegate-at-Large are to be nominated
by written petition. The deadline for filing nominating petitions for the 2009 vacancy election in Chicago, Illinois, is

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE
CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS
Proposed amendments to the
Constitution and Bylaws of the American
Bar Association summarized below have
been duly filed with the Secretary of
the Association by the indicated sponsoring members of the Association for
consideration by the House of Delegates
at the 2009 Annual Meeting in Chicago,
Illinois. Copies of the full text of these
proposals will be published in the book
of reports to the House of Delegates
and are also available on the ABA’s

Notice is hereby given that Edward
Haskins Jacobs proposes to amend § 1. 2
of the Constitution to include the following language as one of the purposes
of the Association: “to defend the right
to life of all innocent human beings,
including all those conceived but not
yet born.”

Notice is hereby given that Jay G.
Foonberg (Primary Sponsor), Joel
Bennett, James Brill, John W. Clark, Jr.,
R. William Ide III, Nathan Mease,
Sharon D. Nelson, Stephen N.
Maskaleris, Mark Robertson and Dwight
L. Smith propose to amend Article 6 of
the Constitution to provide for a delegate in the House of Delegates from
American Samoa.

Middleton propose to amend § 6. 3(c) of
the Constitution to provide the Board of
Elections with the option of using paper
ballots, electronic ballots or a combination of paper and electronic ballots in
conducting State Delegate elections.

(Primary Sponsor), Nathaniel Doliner,
Lynne Barr, Linda Rusch and Charles
McCallum propose to amend § 30.5 of
the Bylaws to provide that non-U.S. lawyer associates may serve on the Council
of the Section of Business Law.

Tang, David C. Weiner, and Hon.
Bernice B. Donald propose to amend
various sections of the Constitution and
Bylaws as housekeeping amendments to
include the following:
a) Amend § 6. 8 of the Constitution to
change the name of the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association to the
National LGBT Bar Association.
b) Amend § 29.5 of the Bylaws and
§ 45. 2 of the House Rules of Procedure
to authorize the Secretary to correct
punctuation, grammar or numbering
where appropriate of recommendations
adopted by the House if the correction
does not change meaning.

Constitution to change the name of the
Senior Lawyers Division to the Elder
Law and Experienced Lawyers

ABE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS
The Annual Meeting of Members of the
American Bar Endowment will be held
in conjunction with the ABA Annual
Meeting on August 3, 2009, at 8: 45 A.M.
in the Grand Ballroom, Gold Level, East
Tower, of the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
At this meeting two Directors will be
elected, each to serve a five-year term,
and one Director will be elected to serve
a two-year term.
